ETCHA Sketch Downloads

The files can be downloaded in either XML or as a PostgreSQL database. The formats are described here.

If you publish research based in part on data found in this repository, then in
your acknowledgments please cite the following paper, which describes the data
and the repository:

Michael Oltmans, Christine Alvarado, and Randall Davis. ETCHA Sketches: Lessons Learned from Collecting Sketch Data. In Making Pen-Based Interaction Intelligent and Natural. October 2004.

This will help others to obtain the same data sets and replicate your
experiments. Thank you.

XML files

There are 6 files in all. Together they comprise the ETCHA Sketches.
final-labels.zip This is the set of strokes and labels that at least two labelers agreed on.  It contains a combination of point and shape elements.
strokes-Floorplans.zip These are the full sketches with no labels.  It is just a series of sketch elements
strokes-family-trees.zip
strokes-geometry.zip
strokes-circuits.zip
all-labels.zip This includes multiple and sometimes contradictory labels for the strokes. It useful for exploring the variation in how people differed in their labeling of the strokes.
